Child killed by lightning, more heavy rain forecast.

THE GOOD NEWS is for Panama’s rivers and  reservoirs. The bad news is for people in the scores of flood and landslide  prone areas. Heavy rains are expected to continue in Panama for the next few months.

Weather forecaster Freddy Picado, said that rain in the country will be above normal for the next few months.

“In September, October and November of this year, it is likely that precipitation will be above historical norms, which is expected to help in the recovery of the levels of dams, reservoirs and rivers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the clean up continued in San Miguelito from flooding and landslides were caused by severe storms last week

José Donderis, director of the civil defense agency Sinaproc, said that heavy rains yesterday caused additional damage in Belisario Porras and Juan Díaz. The entity had to  evacuated its staff from Samaria due to the risks posed by the rains.

Meanwhile  a 12-year-old was killed in Veracruz by a lightning strike.

At the National Assembly, deputies heard testimony about flooding problems around Panama City that have been caused by unregulated development.
