New probes into Martinelli and Financial Pacific

THREE INVESTIGATIONS have opened into the goings on at the Financial Pacific(FP) brokerage  for the alleged commission of the crimes of money laundering, insider trading and corruption of public officers from transactions through accounts credited to the brokerage all are linked to partners and family of former President Ricardo Martinelli, whose current whereabouts are unknown.

The brokerage is  currently in liquidation.

The investigations are based on three requirements of the Superintendent of Stock Markets (SMV): a complaint for the handling of  the High Spirit account; another, for the use of Jal Offshore account, and a note in which the SMV reports on the opening of an administrative process for alleged privileged information usage in the purchase of shares in Minera Petaquilla.

The three files are directly instructed by the office of the Attorney General, who has taken affidavits from different banks, nine of which have already cooperated, in other proceedings. It is also planned to send judicial investigators  abroad.

The processes are linked to the file that the Supreme Court is going to open against Martinelli for acquiring mining shares allegedly using FP accounts and using confidential information while he held the presidency.

Martinelli can only be tried by the Supreme Court, given his  status as a member of the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) which he previously labeled a “den of thieves
