Flood alert extended until October 3

A YELLOW  flood alert for areas on the Pacific Coast  has been issued  by the National Civil Protection Agency (Sinaproc) following flooding caused by near 19 feet  high tides that affected 1,076 people and 276 homes.

Water up to two feet deep gushed into homes in the early hours of Tuesday

The alert  will be in place  from Tuesday afternoon, September 29  until 9:00 pm Saturday, October 3, because heavy rains are forecast along with continuing high tides.

The sectors covered by the alert are Panama Viejo and Juan Diaz in Panama; Puerto Caimito, Playa Leone (West Panama); Puerto Armuelles, Rio Mar and San Bartolo (Chiriqui)); Tonosí (Los Santos) and El Salao, Farallon (Cocle).

A  Green alert was also declared in other  areas vulnerable to floods on the Pacific coast and island areas.
