Panama unemployment rate increases

THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE  in Panama has risen to 5.1 percent from 4.8 percent a year ago  but there are some areas where the figure is dramatically higher.

While Panama’s economy climbed  jobs in hotels and restaurants decreased.

A report from the  Comptroller General   reveals that   “ Although women have a lower participation in economic activity, the unemployment rate (6.2%) is higher than that of men (4.2%),”

The provinces with  the highest unemployment are Colon with 10.4%; Bocas del Toro 8.2%  and Panama Oeste with 5.8%.

At the low end of the scale are Los Santos with 1.2%,  Darien2.3% and  Herrera 3%.
