Supreme Court candidate would not let president influence decisions

THE FIRST candidate vying to fill one of the two upcoming vacancies in Panama’s Supreme Court the State Justice Committee committee that as a member of the bench, he would not let the president influence any of his decisions.

The interview of César A. Moreno Almanza, 46 began at 8 a.m. on Monday, November 23 and lasted for two hours. There are 10 finalists, and two will be interviewed each day this week.

Asked if he would discuss cases with the president, he said he would consider that conversation the same as “one with any other citizen.”

Pressed on the issue, he said that he would not let the president influence a case, stating that he has no political affiliation.
