With Trump sidelined, Latinas favored for Miss Universe
PANAMA and other Latin American countries have favored candidates among the 80 contestants from around the world will compete on Sunday in the Miss Universe 2015 contest, after Donald Trump sold the rights to the extravaganza to be held in Las Vegas.
Many had earlier announced they would not compete after Trump’s comments on Latinos caused a storm throughout Latin America.
After the victory in 2014 of the Colombian Paulina Vega, the representatives of Latin American countries like Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia and Dominican Republic are in the running to be the next Miss Universe.
The 64th edition of this international competition was overshadowed by the controversy Trump’s comments, which led to numerous complaints from Latino voices and led countries like Panama, Mexico, Costa Rica and others to announced they would not join the contest.
Subsequently, the magnate and Republican candidate for the White House sold the rights to Miss Universe 2015 to the company WME / IMG, so under new owners and separate management, all Latin American countries agreed to participate.
