OFF THE CUFF: Anointing by Martinelli not recognized
WHILE INFIGHTING continues in the ranks of the Democratic Change (CD) party over the designation of Alma Cortés as acting president of the CD party, in the eyes of the Electoral Tribuna,it is still under the rule of Ricardo Martinelli who created the group that propelled him to power.
To date, reports La Prensa, the TE has not received the official documentation designating the appointment of Cortés, the current secretary of the party. The TE still recognizes Ricardo Martinelli as president.
The TE issued a statement saying: “So far the Tribunal has not received an official communication from the chairman of the party communicating the designation of Cortés. For her to serve as acting president, she must provide the documentation of the chairman of the party which designates her to serve in that role.”
Martinelli sent a letter to the party’s National Board of Directors in mid-December announcing the changes, including appointing Cortés as the acting president. She replaced Rómulo Roux.
He said the authority for him to make that designation is within the party’s charter..
Meanwhile many members of the party’s caucus are in revolt over the appointment and a threat of expulsion from Martinelli.
