One complaint against Martinelli rejected
ONE OF ELEVEN criminal complaints against ex-president and current Central American Parliament (Parlacen) Deputy Ricardo Martinelli, has been rejected by the plenum of the Supreme Court
It was a request to suspend his Parlacen and to investigate him as part of a complaint filed by former Ecuadorean Deputy Tito Galo Lara.
Ciminal complaints against Martinelli, must filed with the Supreme Court due to his membership in the Parlacen.
The complaint was filed on Sept. 19, 2014, over the decision to revoke the asylum granted to Lara on May 19 of that year.
Lara was arrested on June 9 in Panama and extradited to Ecuador on Nov. 14, 2014, where he faced sentencing on murder charges.
Six days after filing the complaint, Guillermo Cochez, Lara’s lawyer, asked for the lifting of Martinelli’s immunity and for prosecutors to forward the case to the Supreme Court.
There are now three cases against Martinelli which have not been admitted to the court and there are still two pending decisions.
The court has ordered the arrest of the former president on charges of ordering illegal surveillance while he was in office.
