Pollution Investigation follows cruise ship grounding
AN INVESTIGATION has been opened by the Maritime Authority of Panama into possible mistakes made in the handling of waste by the owners of a cruise ship that ran aground near Coiba Island Dec.22.
The cruise ship Star Pride, owned by Windstar Pride Ltd., ran aground while maneuvering to anchor at the island.
The investigation is based on reports provided by companies that provided waste management services to the cruise line.
The authority is also investigating possible breaches of the International Convention for the Prevention of Sea Pollution which mandates that ships properly manage their waste.
