Panama zika virus cases reach 53

THREE NEW cases of the zica virus have been detected  in Panama’s Guna Yala region, bringing the total number of  infected people to 53.

During a Ministry of Health (MoH) press conference, it was reported that prevention information will  be stepped up.

Meanwhile  the Cabinet Council will assess this week, measures  to fight the  virus and a request for extra funds will be presented to increase the fight against the Aedes aegypti mosquito

Since February 8, the MoH   has operated an “epidemiological fence” in the area of ​​Pacora to retain and examine persons heading  to the capital city and  displaying flu symptoms. The tests seek to determine if they have zika, chikungunya or dengue.
