Strret thief gets presidential tongue lashing

IT’S NOT  every day that a Panama street  thief gets caught in the act and receives  a face to face tongue lashing from the president of a country, but it happened in Panama on Friday, February 26, when  a youth in Currundu robbed two  German tourists at knife point.

The timing was not right  for Edwin Forbes Gudiño Abdiel, a candidate for the born loser’s club , because, as he turned to run away with his booty, he was spotted by bodyguards of President Juan Carlos Varela, whose  passing convoy was en route to San Miguelito  to verify that local schools would be  ready for Monday’s return to the classrooms.

One of the guard’s chased the fleeing robber and  President Varela, who was traveling in another car, got out and “forcefully rebuked” him reports El Siglo: “Guys like you do not want change and want to  find the easy life”

Varela then,  on behalf of the country apologized to the tourists

The knife thief  had used to threaten the tourists was seized, and he was arrested and taken away for processing with a potential 8-year jail sentence looming.
