New canal locks register 100th transit
A SOUTH KOREAN ship became the hundredth vessels to pass through the new Panama Canal locks, part of the expanded waterway.
The Canal Authority (ACP) announced that the Hanjin Xiamen, of the South Korean shipping company Hanjin Shipping, made the transit on Sunday August 14.
The new locks, opened June 26.
The ship measures 294 meters in length and is 40 meters wide. It was captained by Fermín Guardia, Juan Ramón Feliú and Julio Candanedo and is bound for New York.
“Every day we are adding more bookings,” said ACP Administrator Jorge Luis Quijano.
