Riot police called to Via Argentina
RIOT POLICE were called to Via Argentina on Wednesday morning, October 5 to face protestors on Vía Argentina.
A dozen people upset about the removal of two trees on the street had closed it to traffic to demand that the process of removing the trees be halted.
The Mayor’s Office of Panama City reported that the removal was requested by the water and sewer agency Idaan since the roots of the trees were blocking the sewer system.
The trees were approximately 15 meters high.
Via Argentina is one of the streets scheduled for a makeover according to a plan put forward by the mayor’s office.
It has been criticized by citizen’s groups in terms of cost and conflicting priorities.
