Panama workers mark Labor Day

HUNDREDS of Panamanians from across the country gathered in Plaza 5 de Mayo on Monday, May 1, to join in the annual  Labor Day march

The march is held around the world  in commemoration of “the martyrs of Chicago” a group of trade unionists who were killed in 1886  while demanding that the working day be cut from twelve to eight hours.

Speakers expressed concern about the country’s labor instability.

Among the marchers were members of the National Strategic Alliance, the General Confederation of Workers of Panama (CGTP), Suntracs, the Union of Industrial Workers of the Poultry and Associated  Sectors.
