Three new security top guns waiting in wings

THE DIRECTORS of Panamas  three security forces will be replaced in the next three months as the current top guns  reach retirement age said President Juan Carlos Varela on Friday  November 3.

The outgoing trio

Heading to pasture will be  National Police Chief Omar Pinzón, Crisian Hayer who commands the National Frontier Service (Senafront), and Belsio González of the National Aeronaval Service (Senan).

The president indicated that the changes will take place during the last two months of the year and at the beginning of 2018

“We have already started the process of choosing some directors and are sitting down with the current ones to listen to the reports,” said Varela.

The lead up to the current National Independence celebrations has been clouded by multiple protests and demonstrations against corruption and impunity.

Commenting on the cases under investigation in the Odebrecht case,  Varela kept mum on recent revelations linking his own Panameñista party  to the Brazilian construction giant

He said that Panama is a country that has always come out ahead and will continue to move forward. “Our democracy will be strengthened, it will consolidate and every day it will represent the interests of the people,” he said.
