OPINION: Martinelli defense challenge

The technical defense of the former president of the Republic Ricardo Martinelli has in his hands the enormous responsibility of studying the seven folders containing the transcripts of the alleged illegal wiretaps that are the center of the entire case. The two-week recess caused by the vacation of the fiscal magistrate Harry Díaz marks the final stage of this section of the process. When the hearings resume it will be the turn of the defense to present its evaluation of the reserved files and share the evidence that will be presented at the trial. So far the weight of the process has focused on the accusation. This is the time when the defense team of the former president will demonstrate its procedural loyalty, and that its arguments, inside and outside the judicial forum, adhere to the law. As of today, the most intimate secrets of the victims of the taps will be in the knowledge of the defense. This information should not be subject to distribution or manipulation in the social networks, in the media or in any other way.
