Panama-China FTA talks resume in October

 

Panama is in a good position to move forward in the next round of negotiations of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the People’s Republic of China, ” in consultation and interaction “with the productive sectors” says the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Agriculture.

In a statement on Sunday, Sep. 2  the Chamber said that the official delegation “seeks to carry forward a meticulous negotiation, “to defend the best interests of the sectors that can be impacted.

The Chamber  has representatives in the negotiations between  the two countries

“We are being very cautious and do not want to rush the process, we are aware of the current environment and we devote the time that is necessary “, emphasized the business body”While a trade agreement with China is very important, even more so  is  an equitable negotiation that is fair for Panama, “reiterated the Chamber

Panama and China finished their second cycle of negotiations on August 24 in Beijing, achieving important progress among them that the country can withdraw any Chinese product that does not comply with the sanitary norms

The governments of both countries officially launched the conservation for the FTA on June 12 June, within the framework of the first anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

It is expected that the third round of negotiations will be held in Panama from October 9 to 13, said the Ministry of Commerce.
