Marriott replaces Trump on Panama skyline

The former Trump hotel in Panama which has had a troubled history before and since it was officially opened by Donald Trump standing alongside then  Panama president Ricardo Martinelli will now be managed by the JW Marriott brand.

The hotel, until March was managed by  the Trump empire  before passing into the hands of Ithaca Capital, who signed a management  agreement with the Marriott international chain

Tuesday, September 25  the hotel changed its name to JW Marriott, in a ceremony backed with instrumental music.

Rahul Vir, Marriot  vice president for Central America and North of South America, said that they are encouraged to take advantage  of the economic growth in Panama and bring more business and recreational visitors

The firm has 16 hotels and their new operation is one of the tallest buildings in the city  284 meters high and 70 floors. JW Marriott will have 369 rooms and 41 luxury suites.

Demetrio Maduro, general manager of JW Marriott Panama, said they are aware of the current situation of the hotel industry and aspire to attract with the brand, loyalty of its customers and the Marriot service, a greater influx of travelers. According to data from the Panamanian Hotel Association, the current hotel occupancy is at 50%.

“The inauguration of the new convention center, as well as a brand strategy of the hotel, will be a great opportunity for the growth of the hotel industry, ” said Maduro.
