Mass poisoning survivors face lack of government will

Survivors and relatives of victims of poisoning by cough mixture issued by the Social Security System (CSS) containing diethylene glycol will continue their battle to get their voices heard, spanning three governments on Wednesday, October 31,

The Committee of Relatives of Victims for the Right to Health and Life have convened called  a rally on Wednesday, October 31, at the Presidency, The scourge killed hundreds  within weeks, as officials moved to keep the size of the problem under wraps, and many who have taken part in protests over the last 13 years are now dead.

The demonstration will take place at 8:00 a.m. in the grounds of Palacio de las Garzas, because they have not received a satisfactory response from the Executive Branch, says a committee note.

Among the claims are the certifications of patients as affected by the intake of the toxic mixture by the Evaluation Commission integrated by the Ministry of Health, Social Security Fund (CSS) and the Ministry of Finance (MEF).

The commission is the one that grants the right to a special life pension to those affected. The committee also demands respect for the labor rights of patients, the increase of the pension and other commitments assumed and agreed that “have not been met due to lack of will”.
