Chiriqui tourism sector reactivated
The Chiriqui tourism sector which has lost over $300 million in the seven-month pandemic lockdown, is back in business with hotels and other accommodations observing strict biosecurity measures as they reopen their doors.
According to the Ministry of Labor, in the districts of David, Dolega, Boquete, Barú, and Bugaba, 18 accommodations were opened between hotels, hostels and motels, which had been closed seven months ago due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Jorge Tovar, president of the Chiriquí Chamber of Tourism, said that just as there is a good spirit in the reopening of the activity there are some “potholes” in some regulations, such as the fact that in the province there is still an absolute quarantine during the weekend That is, all people must stay inside their homes or places where they are staying on Saturday and Sunday, preferred days for sightseeing.
Hermenegildo Baker, regional director of the Labor Ministry and Ada Castillo, from the Department of Biosafety of the Minsa, assured that compliance with the biosafety regulations for the prevention of Covid-19, and the reactivations of workers’ contracts were observed.
Among the hotels, hostels and motels that restarted operations are: Big Daddys in Barú, Motel Villa del Mar in David, Motel Los Lagos, Beverly Hills, Las Américas, Hotel Puerta del Sol, Hotel Los Brezos, Bambus Hostal, Hotel Aranjuez, Las Olas Resort, Iberia, Lucero, Hotel Ciudad de David, Los Rivera, Hotel Castilla, Residencial Obaldia, Hotel Iris and Pensión Costa Rica.
