Covid-19 nixes graduations
The Ministry of Education announced Wednesday, December 2, that the graduation ceremonies scheduled for 2020 are officially suspended, in both public and private schools.
Anaika De La Espada, Deputy Director-General of Education, stressed that the decision is made after the rebound in covid-19 cases during November and the first days of December.
The official said that during a meeting with the 16 regional directors, held in the City of Knowledge, they were informed that there will be no face-to-face graduations and that the diplomas are delivered through the windows.
In De La Espada’s words, they received requests for face-to-face graduations only from five private schools and one public school. “In reality, most of the schools in the country did not show interest in holding ceremonies,” she said.
It is estimated that for this year there were a total of 32,000 graduating students.
