Women’s enpowerment advocate crowned Miss Universe

Harnaaz Sandhu a 21-year-old actress and women’s empowerment advocate from India became the new  Miss Universe, in the 70th edition of the pageant on Sunday, December 12.

The contest was broadcast live from the city of Eilat, Israel. It started at 7 pm Panama time.

Harnaaz Sandhu who always remained a favorite to win this year was crowned by Mexican  Andrea Meza, the outgoing queen.

The first runner-up was  Miss Paraguay, Nadia Ferreira. Miss South Africa, Lalela Mswane, was second runner-up.
