Second arrest in sexual trafficking probe

 

A second person allegedly involved in a network of trafficking in women for sexual exploitation operated in Paitilla and via Argentina has been arrested by officials from the Public Ministry and the National Police.

The man, of Italian nationality, was arrested at  Tocumen International Airport, as he was boarding a flight to Costa Rica.

In diligence carried out on Wednesday, the First Prosecutor’s Office Against Organized Crime seized more than $10,000 dollars in cash, in the apartment the man occupied in the San Francisco sector.

This was the second arrest in the  “Galaxy” operation after a man was arrested Sunday presumed to be in charge of the custody of the six Colombian women who were allegedly subjected to sexual exploitation.

The Colombian, identified as Jhonatan Ocampo, has already been presented before a guarantee court and is in preventive detention.

The Prosecutor’s Office stressed that it is on the trail of other possible members of the criminal network.
