Tropical storm Julia brings floods, landslides, one death to Colón

 

Several areas of Panama, especially the province of Colón, were the first to suffer the effects of tropical storm Julia with increased rains and winds  bringing landslides flooding, and one death

The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) issued a yellow alert for several provinces on Friday afternoon, October 7 and in the night the province of Colón suffered the first effects of the rains

Carlos Rumbo, director of Sinaproc confirmed to TVN Noticias that a woman died in a landslide, in the Villa Los Ángeles sector and trapped three people: a woman, a minor, and a man.

In the city of Colón, the downpour caused the flooding of streets 4 and 5 on Amador Guerrero Avenue. And the overflow of the Villa del Caribe creek on the Boyd Roosevelt highway was reported.

 Landslides were also reported in the Las Mercedes sector, towards the Costa Arriba de Colón.

The National Emergency Operations Center in Panama Pacifico and the provincial operations centers have been activated with personnel from the emergency, health, and security sectors reported Security Minister Juan Pino.
