Over 2,000 in event marking Disabilies Day
Over 2000 athletes with and without disabilities participated Sunday, December 4, in the “For Friendship” race-walk on Panama’s coastal strip, to mark the international day of persons with disabilities, organized by the Best Buddies Panama Association.
The activity included 5 km categories for people with visual disabilities, 1 km for people with visceral disabilities, and 5 km for people in wheelchairs.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was declared in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly to promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities in all spheres of society and development.
In Panama, according to the First National Survey on Disability, there are 370,053 people with disabilities.
