meeting with authorities from the United States and Colombia to address the problem of irregular migration and noted that a pilot plan was agreed upon that will be implemented for two months to discuss the issue jointly between these nations.

The statements were made in Bocas del Toro during a work tour.

The president said that Panama awaits results from the pilot plan agreed upon since the country makes a great economic effort to attend to the entry of migrants through the border with Colombia, to whom Panama offers health care, lodging, and food.

Cortizo said that the migration problem continues to increase because last year around 200,000 people entered through the border with Colombia and this year it is estimated that 400,000 will pass through.

He reiterated that Panama’s position is that the issue should be addressed jointly between Colombia and Panama.
