Panama Entities Ignored the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) Regarding Vehicle Purchases.
According to the Comptroller’s Office, the State has about 32,000 vehicles.
Since last March, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) has requested that various state institutions implement carpooling on designated routes, as part of measures to rationalize public spending. However, these entities “continue to increase spending on vehicle purchases.” In response, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Comptroller General of the Republic issued a new circular ordering the suspension of new vehicle acquisitions by public institutions. “It is necessary to adopt additional control measures that guarantee the efficient and responsible use of State resources,” states the circular, signed by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Felipe Chapman, and the Comptroller General of the Republic, Anel Flores.
