Over 30 schoolchildren evacuated in poisoning scare
Over thirty children were affected by an alleged mass poisoning at the El Buen Pastor Getsemaní Educational Center, in Pedregal on Wednesday morning
“The students are presenting vomiting, difficulty breathing, dizziness, and weakness, for which we have provided help together with fire personnel, medical personnel (…) Students are being transferred and students are being evaluated here “said Police Deputy Commissioner Jorge Bryant said in a recorded statement.
Alberto Santanach, head of emergencies at the JJ Vallarino polyclinic, where they were treated, explained that ten of the infants, nine of them girls, and one boy, were taken to the medical center with symptoms related to inhaling a “toxic gas .” such as shortness of breath, feeling light-headed, nauseated, or sweating.
The children who required it were given oxygen supplements, bronchodilators to facilitate breathing, as well as intravenous hydration, explained the doctor, who indicated that several of those who were admitted are doing well and recovering.
Classes are suspended until tomorrow while investigations are carried out.
