Minister denies University mosquito habitat findings

Only 48 hours after University of Panama (UP) researches identified a second mosquito genus as a transmitter of dengue Panama’s Health Minister said it was  not a threat to Panamanians.

Franklin Vergara denied Wednesday that the mosquito Aedes albopictus  known as the “tiger mosquito” is found in the metropolitan area. According to the minister this mosquito lives in rural or wild areas.

Vergara’s denials came  after the University of Panama announced, on Monday October 10, the results of a study on the existence of the mosquito in the metropolitan. Research released by the UP also revealed that Aedes albopictus   transmits dengue.
