A First Fountain that Generates Drinking Water from Air Humidity Inaugurated in La Chorrera.

The mayor of La Chorrera, Eloy Chong, highlighted that the installation of the fountain is the result of efforts made by the municipal administration.

The La Mitra General Basic Education Center in La Chorrera now has a source capable of producing drinking water from air humidity, the first of its kind installed in the province of West Panama.

Drinking Water for the Benefit of Students.

The initiative was managed by the Municipality of La Chorrera, with support from Alternative Water Corp. and collaboration from the Ministry of Education (Meduca). The equipment was donated as part of a social project that seeks to bring sustainable solutions for access to drinking water to communities throughout the country.  The technology captures the moisture present in the environment, condenses it, and subjects it to a purification process to produce water suitable for human consumption, without depending on wells, pipes, or other traditional sources of supply.  One of its main environmental components is its operation using solar energy, which allows the system to operate without connection to the electrical grid.

The mayor of La Chorrera, Eloy Chong pictured above talking with the children, highlighted that the installation of the fountain is the result of efforts made by the municipal administration and joint work with the private sector and the Ministry of Education.  The donation will strengthen access to drinking water at the school and, at the same time, will serve as an educational tool for students to learn about technological alternatives that sustainably utilize available resources in the environment.  Alexander Ermakov, manager of Alternative Water Corp., explained that the equipment was designed to operate autonomously and with low environmental impact, especially in places where access to drinking water is a challenge.

Maintenance Day.

The manager added that the system does not use replaceable filters and requires only periodic maintenance and cleaning. He also indicated that the quality of the water produced has been certified by the Panamanian Ministry of Health and by internationally accredited laboratories.  With the installation in La Mitra, this becomes the second educational center in the country to receive a water source of this technology. The first was installed at the Bijagual School in Metetí, Darién, through a donation made by the Pro Niños de Darién Foundation.  Alternative Water Corp. stated that it plans to continue bringing this equipment to hard-to-reach communities, as part of a social initiative aimed at providing safe, sustainable, and free alternatives for drinking water supply.  The installation in La Mitra thus adds a new experience in the use of technology and renewable energy to meet an essential need, with a direct impact on students, teachers and other members of the educational community.
