Illegal Mining in the Darién Panama.  21 Colombians Allegedly Linked were Arrested.

The National Border Service (Senafront) reported this Wednesday, August 19, on the apprehension of 21 Colombian citizens for allegedly being linked to illegal mining in the province of Darién.  According to authorities, the operation took place at the headwaters of the Pito River, where these 21 people were apprehended. According to Senafront, makeshift camps, dredges, water pumps, and other equipment used in illegal mining were found at the site.  The people and materials seized will be brought before the appropriate authorities.  In another operation, Senafront agents intercepted a vessel in the Panamanian Pacific, in which 71 packages of drugs were located.  There were three Panamanian citizens on board the vessel.
