Couple Arrested in Barú for Alleged Sexual Exploitation of 8 Minors Listed as Their Children
Authorities rescued eight minors in Chiriquí after deploying Operation Painter 2 for crimes against sexual integrity.
A couple was arrested in the district of Barú, province of Chiriquí, for their alleged involvement in the sexual exploitation of eight minors who are listed as their children. The victims were rescued during the deployment of Operation Painter 2, a judicial action led by the authorities to combat crimes against sexual freedom and integrity in the form of sexual exploitation. During the search and seizure proceedings, units of the National Police, in coordination with the Public Ministry and with the support of the National Border Service (Senafront), seized various technological equipment , including cell phones. These devices will be subjected to forensic analysis by the corresponding experts as a fundamental part of the ongoing investigations.
Background of the Investigation
The National Directorate of Police Intelligence has developed this security strategy in two high-impact stages: The first phase was carried out on June 2nd in the Puerto Armuelles sector (Barú). In that operation, authorities apprehended two adults in the act and rescued an additional minor. While the second operation culminated in the arrest of the investigated couple and the rescue of the other eight minors, who are already receiving the corresponding assistance from the competent authorities. The suspects will be brought before a judge for the legalization of their arrest, the formal charging of the suspects, and the application of precautionary measures
