Drones, Tunnels and Satellite Antennas: Organized Crime Besieges La Joya Prison

Authorities warn that organized crime is using drones, tunnels, and satellite technology to smuggle weapons and drugs into La Joya prison.

Last week, police intervened and conducted searches in several cellblocks at La Joya prison following a shooting that left one inmate dead. The La Joya Penitentiary Center faces the siege of organized crime, which uses drones, tunnels and promotes invasions of surrounding lands to introduce weapons, drugs and communication equipment into the prison.  Fernández explained that weapons and drugs enter prisons through various means, including the possible complicity of guards, police officers, and supply trucks that transport supplies for the maintenance of the centers.
