Panama’s Former President Cortizo and Former Vice President Carrizo were Blocked from Being Sworn in to Parlacen
The plenary session of the Central American Parliament rejected on Tuesday, April 21, a request to alter the agenda and include the swearing-in of former Panamanian President Laurentino Cortizo and former Vice President José Gabriel Carrizo, amid a session marked by controversy.

Parlacen Session of April 21, 2026
The motion was presented by Representative Ernestina Morales, alternate for Benicio Robinson in that regional forum. Previously, Robinson—president of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD)—had requested in a letter to the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) that the swearing-in of Cortizo and Carrizo as representatives to the regional body be included on the agenda. This was blocked by Deputies of the Central American Parliament.
