Tocumen Confirms Interest From Two Companies in the Regional Airport Concession

Two companies are seeking to operate Panama’s regional airports, but operating losses threaten to complicate the concession process.  Although the Río Hato terminal receives seasonal flights from Canada, it lags behind other airports of similar characteristics, such as Guanacaste Airport in Costa Rica, which last year registered nearly 2 million passengers on regular operations over the 12 months.

US soldiers and marines are traveling to Panama.  The Pentagon is sending US soldiers to train in the Panamanian jungle, something it hasn’t done for decades.

Charges Filed and Arrest Warrants Issued for Two Men Implicated in the Death of Esteban De León

Prosecutors Jorge Luis Ferguson and Víctor Barría Rizo leaving the hearing as pictured above. During the hearing, held Sunday, Judge Lezcano determined that the Public Prosecutor’s Office proved the connection of both defendants to the disappearance and death of Esteban De León, which occurred on October 31.


A Boat Carrying Migrants Capsized off the Coast of Colón

The boat departed from Miramar, in the district of Santa Isabel, carrying approximately 20 migrants, bound for neighboring Colombia. A minor aboard that ship was reported to have died in the accident.

Panama Will Register Fewer Cases of Dengue in 2025: 13,000 Compared to 24,000 in 2024

Up to epidemiological week 42, the Ministry of Health has registered a cumulative total of 13,536 people affected and 22 deaths due to dengue.  Dengue is a disease transmitted by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
