Panama’s Digital Driver’s License – Available in October Costing $7 – Does not Eliminate the Physical License

Drivers will be able to access their digital license through an app. In the event of a fine, both licenses will be restricted.

Digital driver’s licenses will be implemented starting in October 2025; however, this will not eliminate the physical format.  According to the Land Transit and Transportation Authority, the digital document will be optional. Drivers will still have to apply for a physical license at a cost of $40, and if they choose a digital one, they will also have to pay $7.  ATTT Director Simón Henríquez said drivers will be able to access their digital licenses through an app.  “It’s an option for the user. Depending on the activity they carry out, they’ll also have access to their phone, and they can keep it there if they don’t have an official license. The important thing is that both have the same information.

When the National Police or the traffic inspector restricts it due to a fine, both will be restricted,” Henríquez commented on this transformation.  The digital license will be issued by the dealer authorized by the ATTT to issue physical licenses.  “The implementation of this format brings significant advantages such as greater accessibility, secure authentication, reduced risk of loss, and simplified procedures.”  Furthermore, the ATTT recognizes the need to adapt to technological advances, always guaranteeing the security and integrity of the documents submitted by citizens.
