Panama’s Nataly Delgado Wins World Boxing Title by Defeating Mexican Ramírez

Nataly Delgado is the third Panamanian to become a world champion in women’s boxing.

Veraguan Nataly Delgado ended the title drought in Panamanian boxing by defeating Mexican Maribel “Pantera” Ramírez by unanimous decision and becoming the interim super flyweight (115 pounds) champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA).  Delgado   knew how to set up her strategy in the ring and followed the instructions of her trainer Julio César Archibold, who asked her to “box” the Mexican Ramírez, who with the setback was left with a record of 15-12 -4 (3KO). The Panamanian landed the most accurate shots and won the scorecards 98-92, while the other two judges voted 100-90.  With her victory, Nataly Delgado with 18-7-2 (5KO) becomes the third Panamanian woman to win a women’s boxing title, after Ana Pascal and Chantal “La Fiera” Martínez.

In men’s boxing, the last champion was Jezreel Corrales, a title he lost in 2017. Overall, Nataly Delgado becomes the 33rd Panamanian boxing champion overall.  Delgado expressed her gratitude to her managers and coaches for their support and for allowing her to fulfill her dream.  Nataly, who was fighting for her second time at a world title, saw her dream come true and added that she “has a luxury corner” at her side, who kept her calm, especially “in the last round.”  At the boxing event held Friday night at the Tierra de Campeones Atheyna Bylon Training Center, Mexican Alexis Ríos surprised everyone with his seventh-round knockout victory over Harvin “Manimal” Aguirre to capture the WBC Fecarbox and WBA Fededecentro welterweight titles.

“Maninal” Aguirre was 15-1 (10KO) and Ríos was 12-3-2 (5KO).  For his part, Panamanian Orlando Martínez defeated Venezuelan Nehormar Cermeño; the South American did not come out to fight in the seventh round in the fight for the national super featherweight title (130 pounds).  Ángel Bethancourt defeated Costa Rican Larry Olivas by unanimous decision.  For his part, Bryan De Gracia defeated Samuela “The Nightmare” Moreno by knockout in the second round.
