National and International Markets Resume Business as Cocoa Shipments from Bocas del Toro Arrive

Bocas del Toro produces 99.3% of all Panamanian cocoa. The crop contributes $26.6 million to the national economy.

The Bocas del Toro region has resumed its shipments of cocoa to the national and international markets after 55 days of blockades caused by protests, which prevented the usual sale of this product.  More than 95% of the nearly 400 tons of cocoa produced in the region are sent to the Netherlands to be distributed to the main buyers, mostly located in Switzerland.
