Sixty administrative staff have been laid off and more layoffs announced, following more than a month of work stoppages on the farms.  The Minister of Labor and Workforce Development, Jackeline Muñoz de Cedeño, revealed Monday June 2, that the Chiquita Panama Company has completely ceased its administrative operations in the province of Bocas del Toro, after more than a month of stoppage in the district of Changuinola.

This appears to be a definitive step, following the company’s announcement on May 12 that it was closing its offices in Changuinola, Bocas del Toro, and relocating its senior administrative staff to Costa Rica “on a temporary basis.”
