Smuggled Carnival Goods Seized by Customs – Panama-Colon Highway

During surveillance and monitoring operations on the Don Alberto Motta highway, a white panel van carrying suspected contraband goods was detained by customs inspectors from the northern zone of the province of Colón.  Among the items seized were: 10 thousand units of cigarettes, 10 boxes of beer, 35 boxes of soft drinks of various brands, 6 boxes of wine.  The driver of the panel truck did not have any documentation or invoices proving that it had been brought into customs territory.  These customs procedures are part of the “Carnival without Smuggling” operation that the National Customs Authority carries out every year in celebration of the festivities of the God Momo.  Customs seeks to combat smuggling and tax evasion.
