Thursday Night – End of the 4 Day Democratic National Convention
Thursday evening marked the culmination of the four-day Democratic National Convention event, which has seen hundreds of speakers, celebrities and influencers from throughout the USA including former President’s Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Nancy Pelosi, and Harris’s running mate, Tim Walz just to mention a few political figures. It was a star studded event with the Dixie Chicks, now just called “The Chicks” singing the National Anthem Thursday. In relinquishing their renowned title, The Chicks said they didn’t want their band name “Dixie” to have associations with American slavery. For the final night Vice President Kamala Harris, who could become the US’s first female American President, took the stage and accepted the party’s nomination for the presidency. Below, Michelle Obama brings the crowd to their feet.
Outside the convention hall in Chicago, Illinois, protesters continued to denounce the Democrats’ support for Israel’s war in Gaza. “We’re hearing a lot about the ‘uncommitted’ movement and how there are no Palestinian Americans that have been invited to speak at the convention, even though — listen to this — more Palestinian Americans live in Chicago than any other city In America.” The theme of Thursday night’s speaking lineup was “For Our Future” — with Democrats hoping to strike a stark contrast between Harris’s vision for the United States and Republican Donald Trump’s. While much of the attention is on the Democratic National Convention, a third-party candidate is spurring headlines as rumors swirl he might drop out as soon as Friday. Robert F Kennedy Jr., the son of the assassinated attorney general, originally entered the presidential race in April 2023 as a Democrat, before switching to an independent ticket. Now that the conventions are over for another year, it is time to get into the real politics of red and blue states and who is going to have the best campaign. It will be a race to the finish November 5 of 2024.
