Roberto Durán Unites the Boxing World
The boxing world unites and wishes Roberto Durán a speedy recovery. The reactions have not been long in coming in the world of boxing after learning that Roberto ‘Mano de Piedra’ ‘Hands of Stone’ Durán, one of its greatest legends of all time, suffered a heart problem. The World Boxing Association (WBA) and the World Boxing Council (WBC), as well as other boxing organizations all sent their best wishes, along with fighters such as Mexican Julio César Chávez pictured below. They all wished Durán, who is confined in a hospital in Panama City, a speedy recovery. Julio wrote “My dear Roberto Durán. I know you’re in a bit of poor health. I hope you recover very soon. Firstly we are going to pray and ask all the people of Mexico to pray for you as well, and hope that you will soon be with us and out of the hospital. God bless you Champ” was the message sent by Julio César Chávez, another of the all-time greats of boxing. Other figures who sent messages of strength to Durán were Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, Iran Barkley, Roy Jones Jr., Antonio Tarver, among others. Roberto Durán, 72 years old, was diagnosed with a “Complete Atrioventricular Block AV” which will require a pacemaker.
