Carnival jinks in Panama’s most beautiful neighborhood

To close with a flourish the contest of mediocrity that the officials of this government maintain, three days ago we found out that they decided to stuff the Old Town with Carnival. The decision that was never consulted with the community nor took into account the urgent need to protect and preserve the most beautiful and valuable neighborhood of the capital, was made with the already characteristic frivolity of the municipal and tourism authorities, and with the unforgivable complicity of the Ministry of Culture, who is supposed to ensure its integrity. The reasoning: we will carry out “cultural activities”, which translate into the coronation of queens, murgas and troupes. The thing is that the Cinta Costera is not enough for them. They are the same ones who arrive at Casco in official cars and drivers, without lining up or walking, using the historic complex as an amusement park, since they are oblivious to the daily suffering of the residents and visitors of the sector, who suffer from vehicular chaos. , the terrible management of garbage and the deafening noise, in addition to being subjected to the arbitrariness of the SPI and the abuse of officials who monopolize public parking lots for their private use. Much that has been achieved in the last 30 years, thanks to private initiatives, is being destroyed by the improvisation of a government incapable of having achieved any order and respect for the law, or the slightest governance of the site.
