Finance Minister nixes Cortizo’s promise

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Héctor Alexander, presented the General State Budget for the fiscal period of 2024, taking into account the strategy that includes, in addition to the adjustment to the budget, actions that entail the reduction of the State payroll

Although last August  President, Laurentino Cortizo, stated that his administration would not eliminate any of the existing subsidies, the Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, Carlos González, announced  Tuesday, December 19, that fuel subsidies and the digital voucher have not been included in the 2024 General State Budget.

The president expressed at the time that, although some people insisted that they be discarded,  he was not going to eliminate them. Cortizo also referred to the fuel solidarity subsidy, revealing that his administration was evaluating its extension.
