Electronic bracelets for men who assault women
As a measure to protect women victims of violence, the authorities met to coordinate the implementation of electronic bracelets for the aggressors.
The high-level meeting was attended by government ministers, Roger Tejara; Security, Juan Pino, and Women, Juana Herrera, together with representatives of the Judiciary and the Public Ministry.
“We want to support the State policy for the protection, mitigation, and reduction of the figures of violence against women, a measure that seeks to have a significant impact on society,” said Minister Tejara.
The pilot plan for the electronic bracelet monitoring and location system was completed last year.
To date, 445 bracelets have been placed, of which 259 are active, a technological tool “with a view to reducing overcrowding in prisons and now protecting women victims of violence,” said the minister.
