Twitter Killer “Threads” the fastest-growing platform in  history

At the end of Tuesday, before completing 7 days of life, the Quiverquant.com page gave Threads 107 million users.

Meta’s new microblogging social network, Threads, sweeps through its first week of life, becoming the fastest-growing platform in history, surpassing 100 million users and making it clear that it is a real threat to Twitter.

Last Wednesday, after the first 2 hours of its launch, Threads added 2 million users, after 4 hours it reached 5 million, at 7 hours it doubled that figure and after 5 days it already had 100 million subscribers, thus surpassing the ChatGPT record, since the OpenAI chatbot had needed 2 months to reach that mark.

At the end of Tuesday, before completing 7 days of life, the Quiverquant.com page gave Threads 107 million users.

“That’s mostly organic demand, as we haven’t activated many promotions yet. I can’t believe it’s only been 5 days!” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Monday.

The new Meta application (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger parent) was launched in 100 countries -none of the European Union- and according to Sensor Tower data, Threads this week is the most downloaded free app in the US. both in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

It’s not just downloads, but also activity on the network: on its first day, Threads got 95 million posts and 190 million “likes,” according to specialized media Verge.

If Threads wants to dethrone Twitter – which according to The Wall Street Journal has 535 million monthly active users – it will have to show that it can be a forum for dialogue about relevant events in real-time, since Twitter, in its 17 years of life, has become the great protagonist in politics, sport or institutional communication.

TWITTER’S REACTION
To see if Threads will become a “Twitter killer” (as the American press baptized the new social network, more time is needed, although the first frictions can already be seen.

In the first two days of Threads, traffic on Twitter was down 5% compared to the same two days the previous week, according to SimilarWeb.

The little bird network is not going to sit idly by: Last Thursday it threatened to take legal action against Meta, which it accuses of taking over the services of its former employees to create a copy of its application, which has been denied by Goal.
