Former Panama mayor jailed 12 years for embezzlement
Bosco Ricardo Vallarino the former mayor of Panama was sentenced on Friday to 12 years in prison for aggravated embezzlement to the detriment of the Municipality of Panama.
Vallarino was also disqualified from holding public office, for the same term, once he has served his main prison sentence. Likewise, Luis Marcelino Stanziola and Noris Raquel Castañedas Rodríguez were sentenced to 3 years in prison for the crime of culpable embezzlement. Like Vallarino, they were disqualified from the exercise of public functions, for the same term, after serving the main sentence.
Stanziola and Castañedas carried out the work of inspectors of the Comptroller General at the time that the funds were embezzled. In this case, the embezzlement of public funds exceeds a quarter of a million dollars and is related to the awarding of two contracts to the companies Juelpa, SA, and Consultoría y Asesoría de Panamá, SA, said the Attorney General’s Office.
Second sentence
This is the second sentence in a month and a half for Vallarino, since on May 15 the first judge of Criminal Cases of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama declared the former mayor criminally responsible and sentenced him to four years in prison for the crime of corruption of public servants. in the form of passive bribery to the detriment of the Mayor’s Office
