A choice between corruption and incompetence

The ruling PRD primaries are the clearest expression that political parties urgently need profound changes that must reach their very foundations. The electoral offer of the PRD is pathetic; it puts its membership to choosing between the bad and the less bad; between corruption and incompetence; between deceit and hypocrisy. This Sunday, the PRD will not celebrate a democratic party, but a clientelist fair, which they have not been able to hide. And, to tell the truth, the evils of the PRD are the same as those suffered by other political parties that, crouching down and in silence, lurk for their own benefit the chairs that will remain empty after the great banquet that this government has given with public funds. We saw it last weekend and we will see it again now. And if Panamanian democracy is floundering on the verge of being described as a failure, it is our fault, because of the militancy of the political parties, which, under pressure or by their own decision, elect leaders who, in return, throw the crumbs of the banquet. Panama runs out of heroes; he is left with the worst that politics has given birth to. – LA PRENSA, Jun. 11.
