Electoral wolves in sheep’s clothing
The first places among the candidates known as “free postulation” represent the devirtualization of the “independent” figure, with which citizens could identify if they were looking for a person who did not respond to a party, that is, far from those politicians unscrupulous people who give a bad image to public service. The “independents” who today claim to be presidential candidates have emerged from precisely those political parties; some are still there. The free application is for them the opportunity to achieve their purposes without going through an internal election in their collectives and, in some cases, it is also a way to divide the electorate to favor their own collectives. And the losers will be, once again, the voters, since it is more than certain that those who are elected will respond to the interests of their groups, forgetting –as always– those they claim to represent. As if that were not enough, what they do from the partisan trenches is now transferred to the scene of the independents, that is, what they touch, they damage, since there is no genuine interest: only an illegitimate one in most cases. In the following reforms to the Electoral Code, the true concept of independence will have to be created, preventing it from being distorted as it is today. – LA PRENSA, Apl. 1.
