Queen of the UK and the world laid to rest at Windsor
The coffin with the remains of Queen Elizabeth II was lowered on Monday, September 26 to the royal vault of St. George’s Chapel, at Windsor Castle, following the religious ceremony attended by members of the royal family and other royal houses.
The three-mile-long “Long Walk” leading to her favorite castle was lined twenty deep with mourners who had traveled from all parts of the United Kingdom to say farewell.
Among them stood “Emma” one of her favorite ponies and nearby were her beloved corgis.
After removing the imperial crown, the orb, and the scepter, symbols of the reign and power of the Queen the coffin entered the crypt to the sound of a Scottish piper’s wail.
Later, a new religious service, reserved for the British royal family, said goodbye to Elizabeth II, who died at Balmoral Castle (Scotland) on September 8 at the age of 96.
Her remains were interred next to the tomb of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, in the royal crypt.
